Officers reported they were alerted by a individual who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered multiple other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.

A high-ranking political figure commented the attack left him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
